Using a humidor humidifier

A humidor humidifier is necessary for preserving cigars. They work by adding moisture to the humidor, just like the humidifier in your house. The steam is not as noticeable and they don’t use boiling water like a vaporizer. The most important consideration in selecting a humidor humidifier is the number of cigars you keep in your humidor. Humidifiers are made for a range of cigars, from a one cigar travel model to a large device for a few hundred cigars. The size of the humidor is another thing to consider.

Cigar humidifiers keep the moisture of your cigars at the right level. If a cigar is too dry, it will burn unevenly or too quickly. If it’s too damp, the outer wrapping can split or it won’t stay lit.

Types of cigar humidor humidifiers

An electronic cigar humidifier comes from the factory set at seventy percent humidity. These devices will maintain this level of humidity. You have the option of changing the humidity level manually, if desired. These humidifiers come with a cartridge of distilled water that will last up to a year. You just replace the cartridge as needed. Electronic models need a source of electricity. Automatic humidifiers come in a few sizes.

If you store a large number of cigars, consider a humadisk. These devices are round and slightly thicker than a coaster for drinks. The humadisk can humidify up to three hundred cigars and are great for cigar cabinets.

Travel humidifiers are made to work for up to twenty five cigars. These devices must be refilled with either a special solution or distilled water. The water or wetting solution will need to be filled more frequently, usually about once each month.

Small tube humidifying devices are great for small travel humidors or cigar cases. These are refillable using a solution. Tube devices are great for light smokers or for travel.

Regardless of the type of humidifier you purchase, you will need a hygrometer. These devices measure the humidity level, so you can keep track of the humidity and adjust as needed. Hygrometers can be attached magnetically or can just be set along side the humidor humidifier.
